An interactive introduction to climate change detection

We have begun to see how computer models can simulate human and natural temperature changes over the past century.

To see how observed temperatures relate to the models' human-induced warming, we are now going to plot these data in a new way using three dimensions.

This plot shows observed temperatures in the upward direction, plotted against time along the bottom. If you click on this plot and drag it down, observed temperatures are replaced by model-simulated human-induced warming (the orange line in the previous figure).

Click on the graph and press R to restore the opening view, then drag the plot 90 degrees to the left to compare observed warming with model-simulated human-induced warming.

There is clearly a strong correlation, but we need to take natural factors into account as well.
