Louis is looking at ocean dynamics.
I’m interested in the dynamics of the Arctic Ocean. It is a complicated space and one which is sparsely observed and difficult to model. This means we still have a lot to learn.
The Arctic is changing rapidly. Although it is a comparatively small ocean, its oceanic, cryospheric and atmospheric changes are important for climate beyond the Arctic.
My interests are both in the fundamental physics of Arctic ocean and atmosphere circulation, and contributing to improving the representation of these processes in climate models
Michael John Coughlan
Michael is interested in mathematical modelling of physical systems, and is currently working on melting processes in Arctic sea ice. His current work uses dynamical systems models, numerical simulations and ideas from network science. He is also interested in industrial applications of mathematical modelling.
