I’m a DPhil student supervised by Antje Weisheimer and Tim Woollings, working on improving seasonal forecasts, teleconnections, and multi-decadal climate variability. Skilful seasonal forecasts can enable droughts, floods, heatwaves and rainfall to be predicted up to three months in advance. This helps farmers, the energy industry, and emergency services prepare for the season ahead. As the climate changes, it is even more important we can predict extreme events further in advance, and that the skill of seasonal forecasting improves. In my role as a Science Engagement Fellow at the Royal Meteorological Society, I am actively working to engage with the energy industry and exchange knowledge to ensure energy security as we transition to renewable energy sources.
