Idalina’s research focuses on the governance of urban infrastructures and urbanization, with a view to achieving just energy transitions and the decarbonization of societies. She looks at how infrastructures, urban projects, and urban plans/policies are conceptualized and implemented by formal institutions, as well as by citizens in their everyday lives. She pays particular attention to situations of conflict and policy challenges, seeking to identify what is at stake and what potential pathways to change might there be. Her work has spanned both global North and global South contexts and is attentive to the historical, political, socio-economic, and cultural specificities of the places she works in. Idalina was trained as an environmental engineer (BSc) and holds an Masters in Landscape Architecture and a PhD in City and Regional Planning. Her research is informed by past experience as an environmental planning consultant and as a member of an environmental NGO.
